A Day Trip Itinerary: Austin to Galveston, Texas

My best friend and I wanted to escape from the city (and the Austin city heat!) for a bit, so we decided to take a day trip to Galveston Island! We went into this trip with very low expectations since we've both heard mixed reviews about Galveston (mostly complaints about how dirty the water is lol), but I can happily say that this trip exceeded those expectations! We had a great time during the road trip itself, exploring the boardwalk, and soaking up the sun on the beach.

In this blog post, I will be sharing pictures from the trip as well as my itinerary! If you have any questions, feel free to DM me on Instagram @kimberlycobb. Enjoy reading!

ITINERARY

8:00am:

Loaded up the car, stopped for Starbucks, & hit the road! Galveston here we come!

11:00am:

Stopped at Buc-ee's a half hour out of Galveston! We spent more time here than I'd like to admit lol. Besides getting gas, we checked out all of the merchandise, picked up snacks, taste tested fudge, and picked out gifts for friends!

12:30pm:

We made it to Galveston! Even just seeing the pier was so exciting since we hadn't been to a beach in so long!

4:00pm:

Had a late lunch close by the beach (.... lunch = Chick-fil-A which was right across the street haha)

5:00pm - 7:00pm:

Set up blankets on the beach, listened to music, & watched the sunset!

5:00pm - 7:00pm:

Hit the road and headed home! Stopped by Buc-ees on the way back to pick up some extra snacks lol :)

WHAT I WORE

Everything I wore during our day trip to Galveston can be found on THIS LIST in my Amazon Storefront!

TIPS

  • Plan a solid playlist to listen to on the way there and back

  • Don't forget sunscreen!

  • You have to get tickets to access the full pier

  • Bring a portable charger & tripod if you want to take social media content without bothering your friends lol

  • The beach is dog friendly... so bring your pups! Just make sure to keep an eye on them at all times and to provide shade and water for them

  • Be careful with the waves, the rip tides are real

  • Do NOT leave before the sunset! It was the best part of the day :)
