Summer Vacation to Cancún, Mexico
This past week, my friends and I took a trip from Austin, Texas to Cancún, Mexico! None of us had taken a true vacation in very long time, so this trip was beyond needed. I went to Mexico with my best friend, Danielle, and her brother's girlfriend, Wynter. I hadn't spent much time with Wynter prior to the trip and we had the best time bonding and getting to know each other during our time there! It makes such a big difference when you are traveling with people who travel well with one another. Luckily we did and are already planning our next trips together!
In this blog post, I'll be sharing details from this trip to Cancún, sharing tips I learned along the way, and providing you all with links to everything I wore as well! Hope you enjoy!
P.S. make sure to pin this post for future reference! And if you prefer to listen instead of read, check out this podcast episode I recorded about the trip!

WHERE WE STAYED
We first had accommodations at the Grand Oasis Cancún, which is hands down the most horrible property I have ever stayed at in my entire life. I wouldn't wish this property upon my worst enemy. I left a very honest Yelp Review of this resort which you can read here:
Because our stay was so traumatizing (and based on the other Yelp reviews as well as the comments I received on my viral TikTok video many others had traumatizing experiences as well), we contacted Expedia and were able to get our stay refunded and relocated to another hotel. This is where the story turns around!
We relocated to the SLS Cancún and had the most incredible time while there. The staff was extremely respectful and helpful, the property itself was gorgeous, rooms were spacious, food & drinks were amazing, music was great, beach was very enjoyable, & more! Can't say enough good things. Read my full Yelp Review here:

We had such a memorable experience at this hotel I asked the marketing team for a personal discount code to share with you guys!
You can use discount code SLSC1 for 15% OFF your stay at the SLS Cancún!
WHAT WE DID
DAY #1:
Travel Day from Austin, Texas to Cancún, Mexico. Our flight was 2.5 hours and we flew with Spirit Airlines (my first time flying Spirit) and had the smoothest flight ever
We checked into the horror story resort (the lobby was extremely humid) and then attempted to eat some food and couldn't even eat take one bite - that's how bad it was!
We went to our room and realized that there wasn't even a working lock on our door, so we spent the evening in our room on the phone with Expedia with our door barricaded with our luggage and chairs for safety
DAY #2:
We got our of the horror story resort as soon as possible!
Took a taxi from that resort to the SLS Cancún
We were greeted upon checkin with complimentary (delicious!!!) margaritas, were given a tour by the kind Concierge named Daniel, and were then offered early check-in into our gorgeous room
We showered off the negative energy from the last resort & then grabbed some lunch at the hotel, which was so good! Danielle and I both got fish tacos & Wynter ordered the vegan burger & fries.
Afterwards, we put our swimsuits, ordered drinks, and hung out on the beach the rest of the day! We felt so safe, happy ,and grateful to be at this hotel!
DAY #3:
As an influencer, I did prioritize shooting content for social media so I woke up and got ready and shot a bunch of content (you'll notice a few swimsuit changes lol)
We spent the rest of the day swimming in the amazing pool, ordering food & drinks (piña coladas, strawberry daiquiri, margherita pizza, fruit plates, churros, & more!) to our chairs on the beach, and laughing & telling stories with each other
We all got very drunk & sunburnt. It was amazing!
Many people our age would normally go out to the nightclubs on the strip, but after our horrible experience at the other resort we did not care to leave our safe haven!
Instead, we all showered, put on our plush robes and slippers, ordered room service, & ordered The Jungle Cruise on demand! We were so relaxed.
Housekeeping came for our turn down service and brought us fresh towels, tidied up our room, and even brought us chocolate and water bottles to our bed! We obviously had the best night sleep ever!
DAY #4:
Woke up early and shot some more content for social media
Wynter & I I enjoyed fresh OJ, yummy açaí bowls, and banana bread at the hotel restaurant. Danielle ordered an omelette and toast. It was all so good!
Hung out by the pool until check-out
The hotel then coordinated our transportation back to the airport and we flew home
WHAT I WORE
Everything I wore in Mexico can be found on THIS LIST in my Amazon Storefront!
TIPS
Check the reviews before traveling and trust them
It’s worth it to spend the extra money to stay somewhere with good reviews
Give yourself time at the airport
Have your hotel arrange safe transportation for you to and from the airport
Bring snacks & medicine
If you’re a content creator like me and plan on doing social media while on the trip, plan out your content ideas, outfits, and locations ahead of time
Bring your tripod and don’t be embarrassed to use it!
Pack aloe vera if you burn easily
Hold onto your immigration form and bring a face mask for Mexico airport
Remember to have fun! If you’re heavily focused on social media like me, make sure to force yourself to take time to relax and enjoy the moment! But also… take all the pics for the memories too!
